OWAISI – The villain of Indian Democracy and Muslims

Tipu Sultan could have chased the British out of India but for Purnaiah, who compromised Tipu’s position.

Now,  Asaduddin Owaisi of AIMM is doing precisely that; weakening the rightful Muslim representation in governance.  Of the 29 Muslim contestants in Uttar Pradesh, 19 could have easily won had Owasi not poked the elections with his candidates. Look at the chart how thin the losses are.

He denied Muslims their rightful space in representing the people, which in effect zeroed, if not weakened the opposition in Indian Democracy.

If there is enough opposition in the parliament, our democracy will survive, without opposition, the ruling party whichever it is, the GOP in America,  and the BJP in India will do whatever they want. The Democrats in the US and Congress in India have done it when they were the ruling parties. It is up to us, the general public to safeguard the rights of individuals.  Everyone including the BJP members and RSS has that freedom today because our founding fathers made sure India remain a Democracy.  

Too many wise men have said, “The evil exists not because of bad people, but because good people do nothing about it.”  BJP with a bare majority will be a different party than the landslide majority. If they have to fight to stay in power, they will behave better.  The  Hindus, Dalits, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Adivasis and others need to team up to create a strong opposition – that should be their goal, in the next cycle they should aspire for higher representation of moderate people.

Lastly, we don’t need a Party for Muslims, Hindus or Sikhs– by the next two election cycles, we need to come down to two parties who would represent the economic interests of all Indians. What we need is jobs, education, housing, loans and retire in peace. We should not let any of the politicians fool us with issues that do not feed us, clothe us and house us. I wish our crowds in BJP, Congress and other rallies start singing "Pehle Roti, Kapda and Makan aur shanti do, aap ka Gobar aap ke paas hi rakho."  Make them sick of fooling us.   

Let’s find the candidates among BJP, Congress or Janata Dal who are inclusive and care for every Indian.  The Indians who are considered weak are very relevant and can prove it in the next few elections.

Now the Purnaiah Owaisi is weakening the rightful representation of Muslims in Karnataka. We need to check it out if he was paid by BJP to weaken the opposition.  Get rid of him, brand him whatever you want to but keep him from weakening the governance.  India would be better off if we have half of the states run by Congress and the other half by the BJP, let them compete in good governance. but no one should have an absolute majority and the absolute majority is evil governance.

This is indeed one of the best news I have read about Tippu Sultan, reaffirming his credentials as a secular ruler.

Dr. Range Gowda has done through research and has unearthed the documents found in the Sringeri Mutt in Mangalore - where the Jagadguru of the Mutt has praised Tippu Sultan for saving the temple from the Maratha onslaught and restoring the temple.  Tippu also rebuilt the Ranganatha Swamy temple in Sri Rangapatna.

When I was around 8-10 years old, my Dad corrected the tour guide at the temple for his divisive language when we went on a tour of Mysore. It's amazing, it's almost like hereditary, I do the same, and I have corrected the tour guides in Israel, India, Australia and elsewhere.

He is one of the first three rulers in the world who had recognized American independence and had sent his greetings; the letter is in a French Library per Dr. Gowda. 
He is falsely accused of forcing conversions of Christians and Hindus, he was not aware of it, his overzealous fanatic generals did that, just as Amit Shah could muddle things with his thoughtless idiotic words do in the name of Modi and Modi will get the bad rap for it.

Tipu Sultan's ring to be auctioned off at Christies

It is through the private commerce of the auction house that many a precious relic of India's history has come to light.

On May 22, a remarkable artifact that illuminates a watershed moment in India's history will be auctioned by the leading London auction house Christie's - and presumably thereafter vanish forever from the public eye.

A heavy gold ring worn by 18th century ruler Tipu Sultan during his last campaign against the British in 1799 will be sold as part of the 'Raglan Collection: Wellington, Waterloo & The Crimea.'

Unusually, the 41.2 gm oval ring has the name of the Hindu God Rama in raised Devanagari inscribed on it.

It was taken off the finger of the dead ruler by the Duke of Wellington, Arthur Wellesley, as his personal spoil of war after the Battle of Seringapatam in 1799.

 The ring then found its way into the hands of another military family, that of FitzRoy Somerset, the 1st Baron Raglan. A famous soldier of the early 19th century, he joined Duke Wellington's service in 1808 and rose to become his right-hand man for the next 40 years. He fought in major campaigns under Duke Wellington, including Waterloo and in the Crimea.

FitzRoy Somerset married the Duke's favourite niece Emily Wellesley-Pole who was in possession of the ring, a gift from her uncle.

The ring has been valued at £10,000 to £15,000 and is part of the private collection of Fitzroy John Somerset, the great great grandson of the 1st Baron Raglan. The collection contains items that have been the possession of the family from 1858, including historical medals, arms and armour, militaria, pictures, furniture, silver, books, Indian weapons and works of art, as well as a selection of art.

Though a small object of personal use, the ring with its inscription awakens the spirit of the unusual 18th ruler who was its owner.

The historical record shows Tipu as Catholic in his religious outlook and forward-looking in his world-view. He sought out what was modern and transformatory for the time, putting it to use in his paramount objective of defeating the British.

Tippu Sultan - India's brave king against the mighty British empire

I am honored to be a part of the History of the state of Karnataka, and a recipient of one of the two brass busts of Tippu Sultan made on the 200th commemoration. I am glad to be a part of the history, but I am not history yet. 

Tippu Sultan's vision of India was Swaraj (self rule) not British Raj. He was killed in the 4th war of Mysore against the British on this day, May 4th 1799. History records that his confidant and assistant leaked the information to the British about Tippu’s whereabouts and that’s how the native kingdom fell to the colonists. 

On the bi-centennial commemoration of his death in 1999, two brass busts were made. One is with former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, then Chief Minister Deve Gowda, and other one was presented to me by Dr. Range Gowda, an expert on Tippu Sultan and author of many books. 

 

Indeed, when my father was running for the City council, it was festivity at our home, the public address systems (we called it loud speakers then) were set and Lavani (folk singing in Kannada Language) were sung, how Poornayya, Tippu’s deputy betrayed him. I am trying to recall that in Kannada with failures. My father was also elected Mayor of the city back in 1952, and he was elected on the day I was born or vice-Versa. 

Tippu was a secular King in the times when it was not a common thing. Dr. Gowda's research is an eye opener. Unfortunately, a few right wingers in India have maligned him for the excesses’ done by his fanatic deputies in Kerala and Mangalore, where they forced Hindus and Christians to convert to Islam. On the contrary, Tippu granted lands to build temples, and he defended the Sringeri Matt (Hindu Sanctuary) from attacks from Marathas, and has protected the Ranganatha Temple in Srirangapatna. Indeed, the first Christian church in the state was built in Mysore City with a land grant from Tippu Sultan that was before the British invaded. His deputy Poornayya was a Hindu. 

In a free society, falsities come with the facts, and we have to live with it. I have been to all his places. Indeed his Toop Khana - the artillery depot sat next to my house in Yelahanka, the wall of our house joined the wall of Tippu's depot known as Chattra now - where they conduct weddings, and my sister’s wedding was conducted in it and my best friend Jaichand Sugalchand Sajjanraj Jain’s wedding was also conducted there. 

When I was a kid, I messed with everything my Dad did, in front of our house, while digging for a wall, I jumped into the trench to dig foundation with axe, boom, one hit, and there was a massive hole. I screamed and came out of the trench, later it took truck loads of dirt to fill it in. and they said it was Tippu's tunnel. No one verified or reported that to anyone. Unfortunately that is not a custom in India. We don't value the old stuff unlike here in America, which would have become a heritage.

The house we lived was the house where Kempe Gowda, founder of Bangalore lived. I have asked my nephew to save the 500 year old rosewood columns and the arches, and I hope to do something with it. It is historical. 

Tippu goes on the record as the only 2nd head of the state in human history that was on the front line of battle field defending his state. He also has a record among all the British colonies to be the only one who captured and imprisoned the British soldiers. 

The Kingdom of Mysore was also among three nations in the world that recognized American Independence and apparently July 4th was celebrated in Sri Rangapatna, the State Capital of Mysore in 1776.

Don’t forget he is the father of Rockets and inventor of Torpedo, known as Bangalore Torpedo. The British and American scientists have given him due recognition. Indeed, India’s first satellite was made in Bangalore as well.
