Survey :: Most Trusted Indians

New Delhi, Mar 2 (PTI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been voted the
most trusted politician in India, followed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a
list complied by magazine Reader's Digest.

The overall list of 100 most trusted public figures across India, comprises
of public figures from varied professions and includes politicians, businessmen,
film actors, sportspersons and renowned journalists in the country.

Former president APJ Abdul Kalam has been voted the most trusted person
overall followed by Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata (second) and Kiran Bedi
(third place).

Manmohan Singh, ranked seventh overall, is, however, the first among
politicians, followed by Rahul Gandhi at 29.

The list features some of India's perennial favourites, including Infosys
co-founder Narayan Murthy (fourth), AR Rahman (fifth) and chess champion
Viswanathan Anand (sixth).

Other politicians voted to the list in an online poll conducted by Readers'
Digest include Home Minister P Chidambaram (50), Congress President Sonia Gandhi
(72) and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee (73).

Among political leaders who appear at the fag end of the list are BJP
leader L K Advani (94), Trinamool Congress Party founder Mamata Banerjee (96),
Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar (97) and CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat
(98).
Former railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav (99) and Uttar Pradesh chief
minister Mayawati (100) find place at the bottom of the rankings of 100 most
trusted people.

Cricket champion Sachin Tendulkar has been ranked at the 8th place in
terms of votes received and is followed by cartoonist RK Laxman (9th) and G
Madhavan Nair (chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation) at the 10th
place.
Others named among the top 30 trusted people in India includes --film
actor Amitabh Bachhan, Amartya Sen, steel baron Lakshmi Mittal, Delhi Metro
chief E Sreedharan, RBI governor D Subbarao and Aamir Khan.

The Reader's Digest list also ranks various noted journalists, including
-- broadcasting major NDTV's promoter Prannoy Roy, The Times of India columnist
Swaminathan S Anklesaria Aiyar, The Hindu Editor N Ram, P Sainath, Rajdeep Sardesia, Barkha Dutt, Tarun Tejpal and India Today editor Prabhu Chawla.

The Trust Survey carries findings from the Readers' Digest independent
poll, which reveals the people and professions most trusted in the country.Some of the top businessmen named in the list includes Ratan Tata, Mukesh Ambani, Anil Ambani, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Sunil Mittal and Rahul Bajaj.

A cross section of 750 Indians were surveyed online and asked to rank the
shortlisted individuals and professions they have the most faith in.
